'There's one more thing.' 'What's that?' 'God.' 'God? How so?' 'Oh, I go to church sometimes
What kind of church?' 'Different kinds
I didn't go to any church at first
My family never went to church
Then I started going to a gay church, and that was okay for awhile
'The gay church said you can be a Christian and still live a gay life
I read a book that the minister in the gay church recommended â' 'Yes?' 'The title was something like Sex and Dirt

Clarke comments on the Restoration Movement and the Church of Christ
We went to church with my parents on Sunday night, and listened to the second of a series of classes on Church History that one of the preachers is teaching
The series was called, “Studying the History of the New Testament Church.” It was a decent lesson for the most part, sparse with information, but that is to be expected when you only have 45 minutes to cover the ante-nicene period of Church History
The teacher asserted that the apostasy took place during the nicene period, however, Ignatius being the “Bishop” of Antioch over a group of elders points to the fact that already there had been changes to the leadership structure of the church
While I think God’s will was always accomplished no matter what the church and people did wrong, I don’t think there was a group of people that existed the whole time that things the way we do them
I was happy to see that they had so many people there who wanted to learn about church history
She told me that she grew up in the church, and that her mother had grown up in the church as well
Andràe's Music Will Never Lose Its Power
Magazine interview with gospel music's Andràe Crouch. Topics include the Disciples,
his record label, racism, trends in music. [The Wittenburg Door]
Today, Andra'e is the Senior Pastor of 'The New Christ Memorial Church of God in Christ, ' which his father started
Of course back then there were no Grammy awards, but we won the number one song of the year for L.A., in church contests, and all that
They were getting ready to have an event at a Nazarene Church in Pasadena
Sonny was a part of that church and very active in it and was involved in Campus Life clubs around California
I was in the youth group at church and I told him that I would do it
This was where they closed the park down to the public, and the Nazarene church organization had use of it for the night
DOOR: When was it that you took over your father's church, the 'New Christ Memorial Church of God in Christ?' CROUCH: It's been seven years now
DOOR: How do you handle juggling the different hats of being a gospel music star one day and being the pastor of a church the next? CROUCH: I think you hit it right when you use the word juggle
The reason why a lot of the styles of music are the same is because a lot of the same instruments were accessible to us, and were used in our churches

Thérèse, a Doctor of the Church An article examining St. Therese's theology and writings, by Patrick V. Ahearn.
| Thérèse, a Doctor of the Church by Patrick V
Cardinal O'Connor of New York presented a formal petition to the Holy Father together with a position paper presenting a rationale justifying Thérèse's Doctorate and a dossier containing the requests for it from more Thérèse's "Credentials" as a Doctor There are thirty-two Doctors of the Church, two of whom are women: St
There are three requirements for naming someone a Doctor: (1) holiness that is truly outstanding, even among saints; (2) depth of doctrinal content; and (3) an extensive body of writings which the Church can recommend to her members as free from error and faithful to her authentic tradition
With all respect to Teresa of Avila and to John of the Cross and surely great respect is owed to these two Doctors of the Church who so strongly influenced Thérèse they are not always easy to follow
The point is that, as time has passed, Thérèse has come to be seen not so much as someone who answers prayers, though she still does so quite dramatically, but rather as one of the most outstanding mystics in the history of the Church
It is interesting to observe how it bears upon the major themes in the great proclamation of the Church's thought which found expression in the Second Vatican Council

But Masullo was sort of creative in asking the mainline Protestants whether or not they take their denominational policy statements from church leaders seriously, or whether the opining of the state and national staff amounted to just more partisan blather from another set of interested parties
Poor MacLean, who was clearly not expecting any questions about UCC foreign policy statements, mumbled that some UCC churches are "liberal" and some are "conservative" - with the understanding that no one is obligated to pay much attention to what the denominational staff cooks up at the home office
The whole episode wasn't really very important, but it was a rare moment for a sort of liberal, mainstream Protestant political candidate to be faced with explaining away formal or informal church pronouncements from a denomination that doesn't really do the "creed" thing
_ August 21, 2006 Media responds to United Church of Canada's rejection of divestment Major news outlets have picked up the story of the United Church of Canada's rejection of divestment..
Jewish groups are cautiously welcoming a decision by the United Church of Canada to drop an overt program of divestment in Israel in favor of "a pro-peace investment strategy for the Middle East" that aims for "a just peace in Palestine and Israel." In the end, the anti-Semitic proposers of the boycott were hoist on their own petard: If divestment was going to be an ethical tool, it would be applied to all in the region

NEVER WENT TO CHURCH ?
Secretmotive.com - Youth Testimonies
Young people talk about how Jesus worked in their lives.
Our church, family, and friends all prayed for my recovery
My youth group was picked up, and we took a 10 minute drive to a church, where we would be living for the next 4 days
It wasn't until 2 years later that I really got on fire for the Lord when I moved to a new town and attended Emmanuel Southern Baptist Church
Through that church body God ministered to me in ways I never thought possible
That was the last time that I remembered going to church with my parents until about my senior year in high school
My way out was sports, not church
When I was ten, I went to a church camp with a friend and got saved
Then I met my best friend, who invited me to his church
I continued going to church without my parents, but I also continued doing the' cool thing', drinking
So, we agreed to the church that we would take the girls
We got to church only knowing about 3 out of 15 of the girls
Two years ago, I decided to sing at a talent show at a festival we have here and I will never forget what happened after...My preacher from my old church (my family had changed churches after my mom went through a depression) invited me back to that church

When I did tell her about Donna's church, she seemed happy I was exploring 'new power'
The nights I stayed with Donna and went to church with her, I was tormented by migraine headaches and a loud, fast talking voice in my mind, arguing against the existence of God, and repeating the teachings of spiritualism
Afterwards, they switched their allegiance to the then emerging New Age Movement and my stepfather became a respected minister of a Universalist church
Should the Church Teach Tithing? Taboo Answer
Introductory essay and downloadable book (PDF) by Dr. Russell Kelly.
SHOULD THE CHURCH TEACH TITHING? A Theologian's Conclusions about a Taboo Doctrine While supplies last I have this book for $15.00 including shipping to U.S.A
Introduction: The following essay is a summary of my book, Should the Church Teach Tithing? A Theologian’s Conclusions about a Taboo Doctrine
In many churches today the doctrine of tithing has reached the level of a modern scandal
While on the one hand, most seminary-level textbooks on systematic theology and hermeneutics by highly educated theologians omit tithing, on the other hand, the practice is quickly becoming a requirement for church membership in the very denominations which insist on solid Bible-based doctrines
It says that 'tithing is the minimum biblical standard and the beginning point which God has established that must not be replaced or compromised by any other standard.' It adds that the tithe is from gross income which is due to the church before taxes
One wonders what 'churches' are trying to hide when they single out the one religious tithe which best suits their purposes and ignore the other two important religious tithes

Part I (2/11/01) Astra Woodcraft, apostate and defector, is the latest enemy of the Church of Scientology
But the Church of Scientology plays hardball with defectors, investigators and others seen as church enemies
'They are very hard on apostates, ' said Gordon Melton, director of the Institute for the Study of American Religion in Santa Barbara and the author of a recent scholarly study on the Church of Scientology
Church leaders make no apologies for their vigorous defense of the faith
'Scientology is something people feel very, very strongly about, ' said Jeff Quiros, a church spokesman in San Francisco
'It's not a go-to-church-on- Sunday kind of religion
If people get in your way, they need to be dealt with one way or another.' Two ways the church deals with critics are lawsuits, its own undercover investigations and public denunciations of those attacking the church
'Start feeding lurid blood, sex crime, actual evidence on the attack to the press.' Given those instructions, it is not surprising how church leaders responded to Woodcraft's allegations
CATHOLIC ENCYCLOPEDIA: Inquisition
By this term is usually meant a special ecclesiastical institutional for combating
or suppressing heresy.
On the one hand they have ceased to grasp religious belief as something objective, as the, and therefore outside the realm of free private judgment; on the other they no longer see in the Church a society perfect and sovereign, based substantially on a pure and authentic Revelation, whose first most important duty must naturally be to retain unsullied this original deposit of faith
However, while the positive suppression of heresy by ecclesiastical and civil authority in society is as old as the Church, the Inquisition as a distinct ecclesiastical tribunal is of much later origin
Paul did not, in the case of the heretics Alexander and Hymeneus, go back to the Old Covenant penalties of death or scourging (; 17:1 sqq.), but deemed exclusion from the communion of the Church sufficient (1 Tim., i, 20; Tit., iii, 10)
The teachers of the first three centuries insisted, as was natural for them, on complete religious liberty; furthermore, they not only urged the principle that religion could not be forced on others -- a principle always adhered to by the Church in her dealings with the unbaptised -- but, when comparing the Mosaic Law and the, they taught that the latter was content with a, spiritual punishment of heretics (i.e

But until I started this blog (long before the term 'blog' was invented) I saw practically no discussion about those who have not only left the parent church, but who have left religion entirely

They were active in their local community church, surrounded by family and friends
Knowing at last that I could leave the church without being sent to hell, I took the plunge and broke away, unfortunately leaving many friends behind
Also, about some things, such as make-up and doctors, I’d been right all along! For a few years, especially while the children were still forming their own opinions, I tried one or two churches but never felt comfortable
Gradually as I began to read more widely and seriously study church doctrine the weaknesses and cracks began to show
I think, probably, my greatest bitterness has to do with how the church’s teachings were used to abuse me

He is not allowed to enter a church or take part in any religious ceremony
For a private citizen, that is a nonparty member, it was permitted, but it was so frowned upon that people had to keep it secret, if they went to church
If they wanted a church wedding they usually had it privately in their homes, with only a few friends present, in order not to let it be known at their place of employment because, even though it was not forbidden, the chances were that they would be thrown out of a job for being known as practicing any kind of religion
They have a wedding, which, of course, is a church wedding
